Nadines work has a deep connection to the land because she makes her crafts from the ground up, either growing, coppicing or foraging her own materials, scraping, splitting and processing them by hand with simple hand tools and then shaping and decorating them into lovingly crafted functional items. She also has a passion for natural colour, paint and decoration.
Learn about the amazing versatility of local plant fibres, tree bark and grasses on this half day course and weave yourself a beautiful selection of functional brooms.
What I love about these materials is that often I use the unwanted leaves and other peoples rubbish and materials that can be foraged usually for free by anyone.
We will also learn how to process foraged fibres into broom bristles and then weave a couple of brushes all out of natural materials, then learn how to create cordage to attach to the broom.
On this course we will delve into the abundance of materials that can be used for weaving that grow all around us and learn how to gather, process and prepare them, such as New Zealand Flax, nettles, tree bark, bramble, iris leaves, dandelion stems and so many more.
You will go away having learnt how to process multiple fibres, how to make cordage and with a handful of different style woven brooms all made from natural materials.
The course is run in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and Nadine has over 25 year’s experience in crafts and teaching.
No experience necessary, all materials and tools will be provided.
